Tax Free Weak?

How many clothing items does the average school age child need that cost more than $50? Maybe a pair of shoe and a winter coat. Maybe just the coat. A eighty dollar coat would net a savings of $4.80. This is a tax break that benifits mainly the rich. I have yet to purchase a single item of clothing for any of my 3 children that is over $50.
I would be more supportive if we did not tax pencils, pens, notebooks, bookbags and other school supplies that are taxed for cent one. How about computers? They are more and more becoming a needed tool to excel in school. Even in the Courant article the girls were looking at $100 cashmere sweaters, not necessary the seater maybe at out $30, but not the cashmere.

Joe Lieberman

Direct from picking up the AFL-CIO endorsement Senator Lieberman went out and voted for another free trade agreement. Thanks for sending more of our jobs overseas, Joe. The bigger question is why would any union endorse someone who loves free trade as much as Lieberman? The real prolabor candidate for US Senate is Timothy Knibbs (He is a member of the Teamsters Union). He has been against it from the beginning and has publicly been speaking out against it since 1994 when he first ran for office. If you want a candidate that is prolabor and anti-Iraq war you choice is clear.

DeStefano and Health Care

John DeStefano says that forcing companies to provide health care would create jobs. I think he is in a fantacy world. This will cost our state jobs. His new commericial blasts Walmart. A recent op ed piece by former presidential candidate George McGovern states truthfully that if the CEO made 27 cents a year instead of $27,000,000 it would only make $20 more available for each Walmart employee. In other words the money is not there for this.

Scott MacLean speaks the unfortunate truth

In responce to Miriam Masullo's statement that he does not stand behind the party's core principles, Scott MacLean said "There is no one definition of what a Republican or a Democrat is. To assume there is is misguided." In other words neither party stands for anything. How sad but true that is. Fortuneately the Constitution Party and the Concerned Cititzens Party do stand for something.
Miriam Masullo is in my opinion delusional. She met with us in 2004 and told us that as a write-in candidate for congress she recieved 3% of the vote. That impressed me. When I was later able to check the official statement of vote it said she recieved 18 votes. Voter turn out may have been low but more than 600 people voted for congress in that district.
Unfortunately there will be no choice for voters in this district come November. After MacLean easily defeats Marsullo in the primary, as did Phil Steele when she was the party endorsed candidate, we will have to liberal candidates choose from.

The Energy Fund

In one of the last Rowland budgets there were a couple of gimmicks. One was borrowing from the Energy Fund. The other was borrowing from another fund. That budget was hailed as not having any bonding to fund it. Well borrowing is borrowing no matter what the source. The Courant on Wednessday reports that this fund now does not have enough money in it. Let's not continue on this borrow and spend path lets pay down the debt on the state and federal levels. Elect Joe Zdonczyk governor. Vote for the whole Concerned Citizens Party team.

Conflict of Intrest

Recently Southington passed a budget by a 8 to 1 vote. The only vote against was by councilman Christopher Palmieri. Mr. Palmieri is assistant principal at DePaolo Middle School. The reason he vote against the budget was the school budget was not increased enough for him. I believe that it is a conflict of interest for him to vote on the school budget. He should recuse himself from all such votes or resign.

More state debt

I have seen in the paper recenlty a new issue by the state of Connecticut of $200,000,000. Again debt is dumb. I thought that they were going to use some of the projected surplus to pay off some of the debt. How much sense does it make to pay off on thing and borrow for another.

Click it or Ticket?

Just a quick question. Do any of you remember when the seat belt law was first passed? They said we will not stop people and ticket them for just not wearing a seat belt. If they are stopped for another reason and are not wearing it they will get a ticket for that too. I figured that was going to be untrue.
